The Big Bang Fair has kicked off with thousands of you coming to enjoy the best in STEM, cool hands-on activities, incredible shows and career panels.

Our awesome Big Bang Competition winners were also announced by TV presenter and conservationist Megan McCubbin.

UK Young Scientist of the Year was awarded to Essex Year 9 student Sarah Ansaf, for her ‘passion for science and STEM’ and project testing common pain relievers. Sarah said she has always been interested in health and was very happy to have won.

UK Young Engineer of the Year was awarded to Cardiff Year 12 student Pacha Pritchard with her portable pollution monitor to help raise awareness of our eco system. She said, “I cant believe it, I’m incredibly happy and proud to be here.”

And – introduced this year with support from Siemens, the UK Young Technologist of the Year was awarded to 6 Year 12 lads from Liverpool for their automated solar panel project.

The students said they worked well as a team, using each other’s unique set of skills with with three working on the software and three focusing on the hardware.
