The 2024 finalists of The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Competition have been announced, and they are a diverse and impressive collection of projects from some very inspirational young people.
These brilliant projects including a portable pollution monitor, a robodog, smart food storage containers and a blueprint for a renewable theme park model using wind, solar and kinetic energy, are all in line with a chance to be crowned UK Young Engineer of the Year and UK Young Scientist of the Year at the award ceremony taking place at The Big Bang Fair on Wednesday 19 June.
This year, a new award, UK Young Technologist of the Year is being introduced and is being supported by Siemens.
All these top prizes will be awarded £1,000 each, alongside the exciting and possibly life-changing title.
Judging The Big Bang Competition has been incredibly tough once again this year, with a very high standard of entries from across the UK.
Phil McShane, Associate Director of The Big Bang programme said “This year we’ve had hundreds of young people enter more than 300 projects into The Competition and the standard of the projects has been really high. The Big Bang Competition judges were extremely impressed with the creativity and innovation shown to solve real-world challenges demonstrated by all the young people who participated.”

The Big Bang Fair takes place at the NEC in Birmingham Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 June. There are limited tickets left for schools for the Friday 21 June sessions.
