Join in with Discover Materials

Materials make up objects we use every day from the bed you sleep and the clothes you wear to the screen that you are reading this on and the battery that powers it.

Materials Scientists and Engineers study how materials behave and what they can be used for so that we can use the right material for the right application, how we can use materials in a more sustainable manner and also get inspiration for new materials.

Our stand will look different areas of materials science to see how Materials Scientists have been inspired by the amazing surfaces found in Nature to create new materials. Students can have a go at 3D printing and learn how building design has been inspired by nature

Students can test different materials used for sports equipment and investigate the world of porous (sponge like) materials. Students can even carry out some experiments to help chose some materials that you may need to take to space to help build a moonbase.
